A lot of monumental things have happened since August of this year.
What matters? What's important in life?
Have I been a dick?

"I'm Harvey Milk and I'd like to recruit you"
It has been a long time.
"I'm 40 years old and I haven't done anything I'm proud of."
A wonderful movie.
More tomorrow.

The Al Smith Dinner in New York
OK, it's been a long time; depression and fear have reared their ugly heads. However, go to the political carnival.com to witness what american politics should represent. And of course when I figure out how to link I will, I really do love this country.

An Aztec Priest and My Demons
What a month this has been. For the past 10 days I have been working in Mexico City for one of their billionaire's 50th birthday party. The party his wife thru for him at their home in the Chapultepec district was amazing (as I had a hand in it, I'll enjoy the after glow).
So today after the strike was finalized, another PA and I headed to the Historical District of the City. We tried to get into the Ashes and Snow exhibit but it was the final day of showing and there were at least 3000 people in line. We headed over to the Cathedral, the largest in the Western Hemisphere. While we tried to attend Mass it was too spanish as in language and too fast so we left. We went into the side temple where the statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe shrine is - it was more contemplative.
As we headed out, my friend John goes, look at that ceremony, that Aztec priest is driving any demons out of that lady. He saw me pause and wonder. He said, "Tom, do you want to do that?" And I replied, "I think I do." He took my glasses off, took my camera and pushed me in the line.
And there I stood in this plaza, people walking by, some stopping and watching, as this half dressed scrawny aztec priest did this ceremony around me with incense and herbs. While I wanted to keep my eyes closed, I couldn't. Watching the expression on his face, the intense look in his eyes, I guess I got caught up in it all and a peace came over me.
While exhausted from this last month of travels in Mexico, I'm sitting in my hotel room, looking out over what could pass for Central Park, looking at at a castle and just thinking of that Aztec priest and feeling quite contented.
Back to the USA tomorrow night.

Goodbye Old Friend, Eddie
My friends XXX had to put down their 15 year old yellow lab this afternoon. Eddie had always been the pretty one in the crowd (re: not necessarily the smart one); when I first met him in the lobby of the Summerfield Suites Hotel in West Hollywood, September of 1994 my first day working for Out Magazine and his first day in LA (he had just flown in from DC with his owners) - it was love at first site.
When I house sat for them, he always slept with me and when he got too old to jump into bed with me, he always slept next to my bed and I always laid with my arm off the side to touch him.
I went over this morning to say goodbye and it was much harder than I had imagined. He still has his puppy face but unfortunately age has taken the rest of his body.
No more pain.
Will always love ya.

Broad Contemporary Art Museum
I work with the company that produced the Gala for the opening, 9 February 2008. While having had access to the site for the previous 2 weeks, I didn't go into the galleries until that evening.
And while being no art expert, it was TREMENDOUS ! More details and reviews later.
And can I tell you, Maria Shriver is FLAWLESS ! Tom Cruise is amazingly handsome (and I really don't like him), and I wish I could find that someone, that Eli Broad found in Edythe. What a couple !
While LACMA has been the sort of forgotten step-child in LA, the vision for the future of this campus is deservedly breathtaking!
And it has started......NOW!
GO SEE THIS !

Obamamania !
The Potomac Sweep ! While I admire his platform of hope, I question the ability to achieve.

Charleze Theron - NOT !
First Al Gore, then John Edwards, now whom do I support??
Super Duper Tuesday. And what was decided? Nada.

Wait, it's February?
I've been in somewhat of a funk these past few months.
The holidays in Fountain Hills with family weren't that bad. Back in LA I partied a little too much and came down with a terrible cold that ruined any New Years.
Not much work in early January; funds are extremely tight. THANK GOD for PROZAC.
I still think about that long ago EX, Chris.
My best friends' BnE had to put down their dog Fred (whom I had helped E get for B oh so many years ago) - sad.
Am now working the Gala opening for the BCAM. So that's good.
Was depressed that Edwards didn't do as well as I wanted. Am now with....... I can't really decide......
